President's Message

Geri Rivers
Geri Rivers,

  President

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Special Equestrian Riding Therapy!

Imagine a day in a wheel chair, a week, a lifetime.

Now imagine the physical relief leaving that chair and sitting atop a gentle, understanding horse that with his motion, will give you motion. This is Special Equestrian Riding Therapy.

For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities - such as autism, cerebral palsy, or Down Syndrome - the unique relationship formed with a horse can increase confidence, open communications, and improve patience and self-esteem in a nurturing, accepting environment. The sense of independence found on horseback benefits all who ride. This is Special Equestrian Riding Therapy.

As one father describes, Disabilities melt away, boundaries vanish, all things become possible each time my son takes the reins.

I am proud to be the President of the Board of Directors of SERT, where I have seen tears become smiles and weak bodies become stronger. Our students excel from the backs of gentle, accepting senior horses, always under the care and direction of registered instructors and volunteers who are certified by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).

Nothing is more important than our students and we overlook no detail in the care and love that our students receive. This supportive attention extends to our horses and to the families we have served over the years.

We love what we do and it shows in everything we do -- from hoof to helmet.

Come by and visit us! Get involved! WE ARE DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU.
