Volunteers
“The thing that unites the volunteers is our love for the program.
And we help each other.” – a SERT volunteer
Volunteers are the mainstay of SERT. They are an integral part of each lesson. As “side walkers” and “front walkers,” they make sure that the horse is doing what it’s supposed to, enabling the instructor to focus one-to-one with the rider.
SERT’s volunteers also help care for the horses, exhibit never-ending support and enthusiasm, and help in numerous other activities. Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and may begin by fulfilling community service hours or class credits. Those who stay on often help in more involved program activities.
All volunteers receive on-the-job, in-depth training. SERT is fortunate to maintain a core group of volunteers who are always ready and willing to explain and demonstrate necessary skills.
Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.
